Tiny Forest
Every year they appear- these tiny jewels that cover the ground around our farm. If you were not paying attention you would not see them. But oh how beautiful they are. I marvel at a God who loves us enough to carpet the earth in glory- the very ground we walk on. This is the stuff of royalty. Surely he must know that most of the time we will not even notice, much less give thanks for such extravagance. And yet he continues to give generously.
This is so telling about his heart and his character. My friend Kelly says “Our God is not a dollar store God.” I love that. When he gives he gives unstintingly.
He gives it all.
And we are like the flowers. Each unique, each valuable. Sometimes when I watch people worship in church I see them as flowers in a field, swaying and moving under the weight of the wind. If I squint my eyes just a little they look like a field of wildflowers. The Holy Spirit is the wind that moves us. We bloom, we reach, we open under the drawing power of his love.
I picked a tiny bouquet of these flowers today and set them on my counter to remind me of these things- his extravagant love and our beautiful response. What a lovely dance.
Matthew 6:30-33 ~”If God gives such attention to the appearance of wildflowers—most of which are never even seen—don’t you think he’ll attend to you, take pride in you, do his best for you? What I’m trying to do here is to get you to relax, to not be so preoccupied with getting, so you can respond to God’s giving. People who don’t know God and the way he works fuss over these things, but you know both God and how he works. Steep your life in God-reality, God-initiative, God-provisions. Don’t worry about missing out. You’ll find all your everyday human concerns will be met.” (The Message)
