With You

With You

Dear husband,

Thank you for taking me out tonight. We rendezvoused at the mall to see a movie, like we often do. I love our time together. You were waiting at the top bannister when I rushed into the food court. I was late like I often am, but your smile made me forget my guilt over it. There you were. You were waiting for me. It was a wonderful feeling.

I got my popcorn like I always do and you patiently waited. Mama said I didn’t deserve you. She was right. But who does deserve to be loved so sacrificially? You overlook my flaws to find the things you can cherish. We headed into the theater, me with my big tub of popcorn and you making jokes like you do when you are happy.

It was a good story and I laid my head on your shoulder during the sad parts. I have found safety there for 29 years now. It’s one of my very favorite places on earth.

When the movie was over we walked out into the cold rain. Again you waited on me when I took some photos in the chilly wind. Mom was so right. I don’t deserve you. When we finally made it into Barnes and Noble you were soaked. I was cold and wet.

And alive.

There are few things that make my heart pound like walking in the rain with you. Remember when we were first falling in love and we danced in the rain in that gravel parking lot? Remember what you said as I swooned into your country boy arms? I know you do and I do too, because we both knew it was a good line — “Rain looks good on you.” But it wasn’t a line at all. It was your heart connecting with mine. You were finding me that night in the rain- finding that my heart beats fastest in your arms. Finding that I am indeed beautiful when I am being loved by you.

Doesn’t love look good on us all?

I love you my husband. Until our next rendezvous — hopefully at the table for breakfast. I can hardly wait.

Love,

Mag

I Corinthians 13:4-7 ~” Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth.  It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.”
