Here we are in this moment, riding in the car. I am putting on my shoes and clasping my watch because I was too late to do that in the house. You are sitting quietly (patiently) beside me. There is that subtle excitement in the air when we are on our way to do something fun. We are going to meet some good friends for good food. It’s a lovely feeling. After all these years, my time with you is still my favorite.
I look past your profile to see the sun lighting up that old oak in the pasture. The sky is ablaze with color. “Look at the sunset!” I exclaim as I reach for my camera and focus through our dirty windshield. The soft click of my shutter tells me I have gathered another memory to safely put away. May I never take for granted these moments, seemingly mundane but expressly invaluable.
May you always be in my now – so pensive and patient. Your calm steady nature is the platform on which I balance my life. I love being with you right now.
And always.
Another moment held and treasured.
